The Gandhi family and the Prime Minister’s post have been discussed many times in the country’s politics. The UPA government was even termed by the opposition to be a government run by Rimat. Manmohan Singh, who held the country’s power for ten years, was described by the BJP as the Prime Minister following the behest of Congress President Sonia Gandhi. Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha MP and Bihar Congress in-charge Shakti Singh Gohil has said that the Gandhi family never had ambitions to become Prime Minister.
He said that in 1991, the then Prime Minister Narasimha Rao asked Sonia Gandhi to become the Prime Minister, but she refused. When UPA-One government came to power, Sonia Gandhi asked Manmohan Singh to become PM.
Shakti Singh Gohil said that in UPA-II, when Manmohan Singh asked Rahul Gandhi to become PM due to poor health, he asked Manmohan Singh to continue as PM.
