Prime Minister Narendra Modi will announce the results of ‘Swachh Survekshan 2020’ related to cleanliness in cities across the country at 11 am today. The government announces the voluntary survey results every year and before that four times such survey has been done. In this program named ‘Swachh Mahotsav’ organized by the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry, a total of 129 cities will be given prizes.
PM Modi will also interact with selected beneficiaries, cleaners and sweepers from across the country working under Swachh Bharat Mission Urban through video conference. He will also inaugurate the Clean Survey 2020 Dashboard on this occasion.
The ranking of 4242 cities, 62 Cantonment Boards and 92 towns near Ganga will be released in this largest cleanliness survey in the world. There is a population of about 19 million in these areas. Mysuru won the cleanest city title in India in the first edition of the survey, while Indore topped it for three consecutive years (2017,2018,2019).
During this survey which lasted about a month, one crore 70 lakh citizens have registered on the cleanliness app. More than 110 million people joined it on social media. More than five and a half lakh sanitation workers have been associated with social welfare schemes and 21 thousand such places have been identified where there is a high probability of finding garbage. Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri along with mayors, corporation commissioners and other stakeholders from various cities will participate in the event.
