The special NIA court on Monday dismissed the bail plea of Swapna Suresh, the main accused in the Kerala gold smuggling case. The court dismissed the bail plea of Swapna Suresh, considering the evidence presented by the NIA. The evidence was collected by the investigating agency from November last year through the diplomatic channel over the alleged role of the woman in smuggling gold worth more than Rs 100 crore.
The NIA strongly opposed the bail plea, saying a thorough investigation was needed in the case. The NIA said prima facie evidence is that the accused deliberately committed an act which is directly in violation of Section 15 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
Swapna Suresh has alleged in his petition that he has been implicated in this crime without any basis on mere imagination and that the matter is of political rivalry between the state and the central governments, which was blamed by the media.
