In Tripura, ruling BJP has swept the three-tier panchayat election securing 96.9 percent seats.

Counting of ballot papers has been completed. Officials of the state election commission said that the BJP won in 789 seats out of 994 seats where votes polled.

Out of total 6,646 seats under three-tier panchayat bodies, the ruling party has won 5,652 seats uncontested and votes were held for the rest 994 seats.

Out of 994 seats that went to polls on 27th July, 833 seats were under gram panchayats, 82 seats under panchayat samiti and 79 seats in Zilla Parishad bodies.

76.63 percent voter turnout was recorded from 8,54,900 voters in the election of those seats where polling held.

Officials of the state election commission said Congress has won 166 seats while CPIM secured 23 seats.
