Triple Talaq Bill was debated and passed in Lok Sabha on Thursday. Particpating in the debate, Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said the bill is not concerned with any religion or community. It concerns dignity of women and ensures gender justice. The bill to criminalise the practice of triple talaq and ensure gender justice to muslime women has been passed in lok sabha on Thursday . After a day long debate over the bill, Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) bill 2019 was passed in the lower house.

Earlier, Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad tabled the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill 2019 for debate and passage in the lower house. Ravi Shankar Prasad termed it as an issue to women’s empowerment.

He reiterated that the bill does not concern any religion or community, rather it aim is to uphold women’s dignity. All should support the bill that seeks to protect the rights of dughters of India.

Leaders from different parties participated in the debate. Most of the parties supported the bill. Congress and some parties raised issues over certain provisions in the bill. Govt has introduced the number of key changes in the new bill.
CHANGES IN NEW BILL ON TRIPLE TALAQ

–the complainant can only be the affected woman or her relatives
–process of reconciliation between estranged husband and wife
— the provision of bail for the husband
Replying to the debate, law minister said the bill and the issue should not be politicized. The bill is about justice for women. After passage in Lok Sabha, the bill on Triple talaq faces the challenge of Rajya Sabha where it has been blocked earlier as well.
