A group of Karnataka BJP leaders met party president Amit Shah on Thursday as the party weighed its options following the fall of the Congress-JD(S) government in the state.

The state BJP led by former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa is keen to stake claim to form the next government but is waiting for the central leadership’s nod for its next move.

Karnataka BJP leaders, including Jagdish Shettar, Arvind Limbavali, Madhuswamy, Basavaraj Bommai and Yeddyurappa’s son Vijayendra, met Shah as they discussed the development in the state and explored the options ahead for the party.

Meanwhile Karnataka Assembly Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar disqualified 3 MLAs till the remainder of the tenure of the present assembly i.e. til 2023.

He also said that he has rejected the resignations on the ground that it was not voluntary.

The three MLAs are Ramesh Jharkiholi, Mahesh Kumatalli and R Shankar. Earlier he had said that he would use his discretion and uphold the faith the Supreme Court has placed in him.

The state also needs to pass the finance bill before July 31.

Caretaker Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said that no party will be able to give a stable govt in present circumstances.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court allowed two Independent MLAs from Karnataka to withdraw their plea seeking a direction to the assembly speaker to conduct “forthwith” a floor test on the H D Kumaraswamy government’s trust move.

The apex court allowed the counsel for MLAs — R Shankar and H Nagesh — to withdraw the plea on the ground that it has become infructuous after Tuesday evening’s floor test.

The Congress-JD(S) coalition government in Karnataka headed by Kumaraswamy collapsed with 99 members voting for the motion and 105 against it in a House with an effective strength of 205 members
