Union Cabinet takes major decision benefiting sugarcane farmers; approves the creation of a 40 lakh metric tonne sugar buffer stock worth 1,674 crore rupees; gives a nod to amendment in Aadhar and other Laws Act; to enable use of aadhar in state govt’s schemes.
Providing huge relief to sugarcane farmers the government has announced an increase in the sugar buffer stock to 40 lakh metric tonnes. Many times there is a surplus of stock of sugar which goes to waste, and second the lack of fair price remuneration due to the low prices of sugar. Keeping this mind, the government approved the creation of sugar buffer stock from August 1st, 2019 to July 31st, 2020. Apart from this, the government has kept Fair and Remunerative Price of sugarcane unchanged at Rs 275 per quintal for 2019-20.
Keeping its focus on benefitting the farmers, the government aims to give at least 150 % of the cost borne by them. Apart from farmers, the government also announced another major decision to give subsidy on the state schemes based on Aadhaar data, under the Aadhaar and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill 2019.
The government has also decided to dissolve the National Institute of Miners’ Health and merge with ICMR-National Institute of Occupational Health. And has decided to sell off 481 acres of land belonging to the Fertilizer and Chemical Travancore Limited owing to the financial losses. The land will be sold to Kerala government.
