Chennai: Tamilnadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit today visited the flood-hit areas of Nagapattinam and Vedaranyam and personally supervised relief works.
Purohit held detailed discussions with Collectors and other officials after monitoring the relief works. He met the people and enquired about the damage that they suffered.
The Governor visited Vellapalayam, Thopputhurai and Maharajapuram and checked the devastation suffered by coconut groves in the area. Coming to know that supply of LPG was hit in an area, the Governor instructed the officials to take immediate steps and open a retail LPG agency at the earliest and ensure non-stop supply.
He also interacted with villagers to personally know the damage they suffered. They briefed him on the relief works being carried out by the administration.
Purhoit inspected the broken roads and houses damaged by Cyclone Gaja. He also directed officials to set right a damaged school in the locality.
RED CROSS RELIEF
Assistance worth Rs 1 crore provided by International Red Cross reached in a van to the flood-hit areas of Nagapattinam. Purohit instructed officials to ensure that the relief materials reached the needy. Six other vans from Red Cross have been despatched that would reach the flood-hit areas soon.
