  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Haryana today to unveil the statue of farmer leader Sir Chhotu Ram where he also highlighted his government’s initiatives in the agriculture sector. He said his government has been making consistent efforts to ensure farmers get remunerative returns for their crops & double their income.

    He also hailed Sir Chhotu Ram as playing an instrumental role in empowering farmers during British rule and laid the foundation stone of a Railway Refurbishing Factory in Rohtak.

    Rai Richhpal better known as Sir Chhoturam was born on 24 November 1881 in a small village called Sampala in Rohtak. This great personality was a Messiah for farmers. He not only fought for the country’s independence in the Quit India movement, but also for the rights of farmers.

    Paying tributes to this great son of the soil, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled this statue at Sampla standing tall at 64 feet it is the highest one so far of Sir Chhoturam.

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi also visited an exhibition on the life and times of Sir Choturam who set up the Jat Sabha in 1912. He also played a huge role in motivating youngsters to join the forces during the first world war. Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, he led several movements against the British rule. In 1937 he became the Revenue minister of Punjab province.

    After unveiling the statue of Chaudhury Choturam, PM Modi addressed a massive Kisan rally in Rohtak. He hailed Sir Choturam as the voice of farmers, and a helper of the poor who dedicated his life to the service of the nation.

    Prime Minister recounted the steps taken by his govt to double farmers income. He said the soil health card scheme, crop insurance scheme and per drop more crop, as well as PM Sichai yojana, were all drawn up with this aim in mind. The recent increase in MSP of Rabi and Kharif crops was also done to empower farmers financially.

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi also laid the foundation stone of a Railway Refurbishing Factory in Rohtak that will boost employment opportunities in the region. He said that this factory will also prove to be a boon for small and Medium sector industrial units in Haryana.

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke of the social changes that are sweeping Haryana. The Swachhta movement has changed the face of the state which is nearing the cent percent ODF target. There has also been a positive change in the sex ratio of the state. Daughters of Haryana are now doing the nation proud, winning accolades at international sporting events. The youth of Haryana are indeed bringing to life the vision of Sir Chhoturam.
